3 cups – Mary El

This month’s card of the month is from the Mary El deck – I love the imagery in this deck. Here we have the 3 cups. The image shows a river coming towards us from the lite sky in the background – it forms three tributaries as it flows over the cliff edge and falls in three channels. traditionally this card is about friendships and how we lovingly connect to each other.

I am instantly struck by the meaning that we all come from the same source of light, however we may conceive of this. We differentiate into individuals with separate paths. we may flow along side others heading in a similar direction to us. As we fall over the cliff edge we trust in our own path and our friends are by our side – doing their own path, but sharing the journey from their own perspective.

There is a feeling of trust as we allow ourselves to connect with another, we can not control the way things will flow – we simply have to discern there is enough in common with the direction we are going and then let go and allow the rest to be as it is. Opening our heart to love and trust as we share with people of like minds.

the tree in the foreground suggests age and wisdom – the many twists and turns life takes us on, sometimes we wind towards one part of the tree then later towards another – overall we are growing, gaining wisdom, strength and reaching for the light in our growth – even in the face of difficult conditions. We allow the experiences we have to shape our future, each challenge bringing a new way of turning to face the light we need to sustain us.

So this month it is time to appreciate your friends and family – those who accompany you on your journey forward in life. We need not to cling, or demand another follows our own pathway, we simply need to appreciate who is with us by our side at any particular time and trust in our own hearts to guide us on our own unique path. Even if a change of direction is needed there will still be others who will be able to share our journey with us – perhaps for a moment – perhaps for longer. So appreciate and let go – be like the river and recognise we are all from one source and have our own unique paths to travel.

Recognise your own history and journey and what has brought you to this place and this time. Your experience is your own and has shaped you – each person you know has their own story and shaping – as we appreciate another’s uniqueness without judgement we are led to appreciate our own, and can honour our own learning and ways.

This month a reflection on the trust you have built with your friends and how your trust in them stems from your trust in your own self, your own commitment to your personal pathway. As we allow ourselves to trust when we fall over the cliff there is a pool to catch us at the bottom so we feel safe allowing others to fall into their own truth also.

The colour of green that is so apparent in this card is telling us to be heart led this month – to focus on what we love and who we love to be with, as well as extending our love to others around us. As we do this we water our connections with people like watering our cherish plants in our garden, we nourish beauty and love in our lives.

Have a wonderful month and enjoy celebrating with your friends, simply and creatively. Spending time on socialising, catching up and making connections will feed both you and those around you.

Wheel of Life – Margarete Petersen

This month’s card reading is the Wheel of Life from the Margarete Petersen deck. There are faces travelling round the image in this deck like a whirlpool some happy some in pain. This card depicts the idea of being affected by the fates in life – how we can feel as if things ‘happen’ to us out of our control. From how lucky we are to how unfair life is.

Wheel of Life

Wheel of Life

Things always change. This month is a time for changing fortunes, things seem to get better or worse of their own accord. Though very often when this card turns up the change in fortunes are more within our control then we think – How we respond to something that occurs to us is a key indicator as to whether we see something as a miracle or as a misfortune.

A really good story which illustrates this point is as follows:

“This farmer had only one horse, and one day the horse ran away. The neighbours came to condole over his terrible loss. The farmer said, “What makes you think it is so terrible?”

A month later, the horse came home–this time bringing with her two beautiful wild horses. The neighbours became excited at the farmer’s good fortune. Such lovely strong horses! The farmer said, “What makes you think this is good fortune?”

The farmer’s son was thrown from one of the wild horses and broke his leg. All the neighbours were very distressed. Such bad luck! The farmer said, “What makes you think it is bad?”

A war came, and every able-bodied man was conscripted and sent into battle. Only the farmer’s son, because he had a broken leg, remained. The neighbours congratulated the farmer. “What makes you think this is good?” said the farmer.”

There are many versions of this story (You can see some here) The main theme being how can we tell whether something is good or bad for us – there are always positives out of difficult situations and challenges with things that go well. In terms of the card if we see ourselves as at the centre of the wheel then we experience life from a point of stillness, if we are on the edge of the wheel then life goes up and down as the wheel turns – at the centre things are constant.

So this month we are being asked to stay in our centre of being. As we return to our spiritual source, our Self, our deepest or highest truth then all that happens around us can be perceived from a spiritual viewpoint and can be seen to be miraculous.  Look out for the miraculous in everything that happens this month.

The other aspect to appreciate is that as we ourselves focus on being centred in our lives we also then make decisions from our centre and small differences in what we decide and when bring to us different circumstances. This month we can also realise how what we are experiencing, how we feel it, is coming from the degree of centred-ness we have had in the recent past. As we constantly strive for our centre so we improve the flow of life more and more. In my experience this card indicates we are ready to embrace that flow more than ever this month and allow our true selves the control over what we do when. As we do this so we find out truth reflected back to us.

Self esteem is high in the month ahead and we have the opportunity to strengthen this through all that occurs. Increasing our self love leading us to expect miracles in all that happens.

King of Disks – Mary El

This months reading comes from the Mary El deck and we have the King of Pentacles. A image that is graphically representing our wild natures, our creative potentials and the idea that we can gather knowledge from working with the land.

King of Disks

There is a figure of pan on the card looking comfortable and nourished, a feeling of plenty and lushness. Also a sense of truly being king of the material world. Comfortable in it and with it.

So this month sees us as getting comfortable with our physical natures, our bodies, exercise, physical pleasure and material things. We may find this month being one of abundance, we seem to attract what we need in any situation without greed or clinging, it is just there is we trust and allow. We may also be working hard, from our hearts and from the desire to create and make things come into being in the physical world particularly those things that are of practical use, rather than for simply creativity in itself.

We have the opportunity to harness our wild animalistic nature into the service of the greater good of whole – we have fully let go of our self judgement of last month and come into acceptance of all sides of ourselves. Then even our shadow can be used for highest good of all. As we acknowledge our truth we invite all others to acknowledge their too and prevent acting out towards each other for our own avoidance of who we are.

The apple reminds me of both our health through eating well (an apple a day keeps the doctor away) as well as the idea that we might need to risk approaching our temptations to see what gold they also bring with them – how do our temptations try and nourish us? Is this the way to really get ourselves fed or is there alternative ways? As we allow ourselves to learn by our experience so we learn fully at a deep level and truly can make choices in our lives being self responsible rather than acting out of a second hand ‘should’ we may not even understand or believe in.

The king of disks brings good energy for business prosperity and also a healthy work life where we are able to make steady progress. There is no rush and stress involved – simply careful well thought out and executed plans that are benevolent for all involved. New projects are carefully considered and taken only when full exploration has been undertaken.

This month we think things through carefully and move slowly forward with sensible caution, but without fear. It is not fear that makes us slow down, but a balance and inner peace of knowing there is always more work to do and so there is no need to rush to finish something, it is better to pace oneself and go steady to have the endurance to fully participate in the whole journey.

Spend some time in nature if you can this month, to listen to the earth for her messages and how she may help you to become more grounded and abundant in a wholesome way. exercising outside is particularly beneficial at this time as your body attunes to the earthiness of the material world.

Have a wonderful month!

9 swords – Darkana

I shuffle and intend for a card that will have something that speaks to everyone who reads it that month. This month’s card of the month is the 9 Swords from the Darkana deck.

It shows a mobile of swords dangling above a baby in a cot. This card is about the ways in which we torture ourselves. We are both the swords and also the baby. We often injure or threaten injury to the most vulnerable, and often innocent, parts of ourselves, with our words and thoughts about ourselves. So, though there may not be any actual injury to be seen, we are hurt and put into a state of fear through our own negative self talk. We condemn ourselves for what we have done, or have not done, or thought about, in fact anything we can turn against ourselves. So through February our tendency to feel bad about ourselves and tell ourselves how unworthy we are is high. However this is also a month of healing – with this threat we can become aware of our hurts from many years back. Often the things we say to ourselves are internalised forms of anger about the past. We criticised ourselves or made something our fault because as a child it was easier to take blame upon ourselves than to really experience the powerlessness we felt, and consuming anger against someone we possibly also loved very much. For a small child the conflict can be too much – we would rather turn the anger to ourselves.

We may have developed strategy of feeling bad about ourselves, or guilty for things, to pre-empt, and seemingly lessen the blow of criticism coming our way, whether or not it was justified. So you might find yourself feeling bad about something in order to stop the feeling of fear of punishment or criticism from someone else.

With these deep, often childhood, patterns, often we don’t know they are active – we simply feel uncomfortable in some way or we feel down. Perhaps irritable with other people for no apparent reason. As these inner processes become conscious then we can take charge and heal ourselves. The situations that bring up these uncomfortable feelings can bring with them the gold of the healing of the deep, or more recent past.

This month have a think about how you put yourself down, how you perhaps feel guilty about things that are not your fault, or feel guilty rather than rectify a situation you did have a part to play in (to keep that negative yet familiar feeling coming). As you become aware of how you do this to yourself – also then recognise this is a response to a very early situation – you have an opportunity to heal it. Trace it back and send love to that child you were then, getting by the best you could in the circumstances, which may have been less ideal for you, and possible for the others involved in the situation too. As you send yourself compassion you are likely to start to feel better. You can recognise in the current situation that what is happening doesn’t threaten you the way your situation of origin did – we are not helpless as adults, but have many resources available to us. We can respond in many different ways and can choose which is right for the here and now, rather than instinctively acting from the past.  So you find ways to both be compassionate with yourself and also from this place find new ways of seeing the situation around you and responding in a way that serves you and is more appropriate for the present. It may simply be a case of realising you are having a go at yourself needlessly and having the courage to trust in yourself anew.

The threats you feel are around you right now are not external, but reflections of your internal fears – work from this place and you can take that dangerous looking mobile down and allow the baby to continue to sleep peacefully and safely.

There is no need to worry something will go wrong that is out of your control, nor is there need to worry about your performance being good enough. Use this month to unpick your past patterns of self cruelty and release the energy stored there. By the end of the month, if not before, you will have transformed this energy into an ally and know that feeling uncomfortable with yourself can lead you to great healing, and thus more joy and freedom in life to be who you are – not just responding through a taught guilt or responsibility that you don’t actually believe in, or perhaps is not even relevant any more.

As part of your compassion for yourself seek out friends and professionals that you can trust to witness your process without judgement. You don’t have to heal without support, in fact seeking and asking for help can be a huge part of the new compassion you are sending your inner vulnerable self. Someone to help you take the mobile down safely.

January 2015 and the year ahead

The reading for January and also for the year ahead if from the Llewellyn Deck. I have decided to post about 2 cards this time one for the month of Jan and one for the year as a whole and I see we have a lovely energy for 2015 and make a great start in January with a successful breakthrough.

January is 6 Wands. This depicts a warrior returning from battle as the victor, he sits upon his horse in a very upright manner and holds his head high, the challenge behind him has been over come and left him feeling strong and secure. Ready to celebrate the victory.

6 Wands Llewellyn tarot from http://Llewellyn.com

6 Wands Llewellyn tarot from http://Llewellyn.com

So in January you see a further release from challenge, this process started back in October last year and when through a preparation phase in November to then really start working through December. Things that have been holding you back for much time in the past are continuing to release you into freedom – you may feel a need to continue seeing yourself, your impulses and actions in a positive light and continue to have the courage to hold your head high, rather than to slip back into old traps from the past. Not that your past is being evokjed this month, but that habit could tempt you to slip. Remember things have changed and it is not like it used to be – you have won the battle – you need not feel you have a continued fight on your hand – you just need to assume that walking in the direction of your passions will lead you to better and better things, not down an old worn path as you occasionally fear.

It is a month to think positively about events and happenings in your life – not because the power of positive thinking makes difficult things go away magically, but because many of the things you think could be difficulties are not in fact – the greatest difficulty will be the courage to assume the best will happen and trust that thinking positively will not jinx events in some way.

Trust in yourself – you know deep down you have only highest goals in mind – this month you can trust this, and assume others can see this in you and any perceived conflict is simply each person expressing their own individual freedom. As you can accept you have this freedom of choice and to act on your desires in a wholesome way – so it is easy to allow others this freedom too and promotes harmony for all.

So be self confident and self assured, walk tall and hold to your own personal power. The feeling of stability and acceptance will ripple out to all others around you and help them experience the same feelings about themselves. Arrogance is lost as you no longer feel it is only you – but you share your positive view of yourself in your extension towards others – seeing them as deserving and being as good and as worthy as you feel you are yourself. There is no selfishness in your stance. In fact any wobbles of confidence you feel are not as the result of others undermining you – but of your own self denigration from habit, rather than reality. As you remember this as soon as you feel a judgement of another come upon you know that this is simply what you are saying to yourself and can be dropped. The instance you let go of it your view of another returns to loving, compassion, and your own freedom of choice to act also returns quickly.

So do what you need and want to do, don’t feel beholden to others, nor fear being selfish. Love and compassion grows within you as you drop old battles and walk forward confident refreshed and strong. Challenges are easily over come this month  and others look to you for leadership, and you given empowerment as you leading method.

3 Cups From Llewelly tarot - http://llewellyn.com

This is a great start to a year that promises social connection with true friends as its main theme. We have 3 cups as the card for the year as a whole and this is a strong card of friendship and joy. Often connected to celebration also, but in a wholesome, deep way rather than simply hedonistic pleasure. On the card there is a full moon celebration depicted with 3 women being out in nature celebrating the turn of each cycle of the moon as the year unfolds. So too regularly through the year ahead you will find yourself gathered with friends and close family to celebrate. Also to constantly remember to renew yourselves. You may decide to commit to some regular meeting with like minds in this year and allow these meetings to be places to share what has been happening as a way of letting go of the recent past to bring yourselves into the present more and more. As you no longer create stories that define you, so you are free to move into whatever your soul inspires you to in the present moment. Your experience of living becomes more and more connected to the current moment and less and less a reaction to past events and situations – the deep past becomes completely clear and the more recent past isn’t carried with you.

From this comes the ability to celebrate each moment of our lives anew. The celebration with others helps us also stay aware of the differences we each experience in our life paths and how each person uniquely has something to offer the world. There is no need for us to be the same or see things the same way – but as we witness each other we both teach and learn at the same time and share our increasing joy together. Joy is a key feeling and experience in the year ahead, it stays in reach by our willingness to be in the moment and to release the difficulties of the past.

By our awareness of natures cycles we come to see and understand our own and so become less attached to our emotional experiences – the everyday up’s and downs of life become something we experience, but also observe. Our identity becomes increasingly associated with the observer and so we find ourselve more detached from the everyday turning of the wheel and are in our center more and more often.

So seek out chances to connect with others in loving exchange, to socialise and be with others who simply accept you for who you are, whatever you are experiencing at the time. And focus on constant release of the old, and embracing the new fresh day as the year progresses.

On a mundane level you might find that you have a close circle of friends and or family around you who are supportive of you in all your goals. Your may also find you are invited to social events more this year than usual, which are enriching experiences. Your circle of friends may widen and connections with people you already know deepen.

Celebrating the darkness within as well as the light as all part of what makes us unique and also connected. Our difficulties can bring us together as much as our joys.

Through these connecting energies this year we grow organically and from impulses deep in our soul. There is no rush or striving needed, just the need to allow space, time, and nourishment of our dreams. They will then grow naturally of their own accord.

Happy New year to you all – the year promises joy and friendship, happiness and release from struggle – your hard work has paid off.

Review of Prediction Annual 2015

Here is my review of the Prediction Magazine Annual 2015.
The Prediction Annual for next year, 2015, is an a5 sized, glossy magazine about a centimeter thick and looks like it promises a lot. When I looked at the content list I was inspired to see a number of different divination and predictive methods represented – western astrology, vedic astrology, chinese horoscopes, tarot, and a couple of articles on the first new moon of the year and lunar and solar eclipses. Western astrology is certainly the bulk of the content though, with pages 17 to 170 covering month by month astrological predictions for each sun sign.

Prediction Annual 2015

The first article is tarot predictions and gives two cards from the Rider Waite Deck per month through the year. Talking about meaning for about half a page for each. Then we move onto an article about the first New Moon of the New Year. I really enjoyed this article, with mention of how the other planets are interacting at this time and also what we might expect at a more community level.

Then we move into the western astrology section – here we have a full page of predictions for each month of each sun sign, so it takes up the majority of the magazine – it highlights different areas of life each month such as love life, work, family, friends etc. Depending on what areas are most active that month. It is written in a very accessible manner and makes no mention of what planets are doing what with each other – just gets straight to the likely interpretation of the sky. Personal I felt this was a shame, though I am sure for many people hearing what is means is more to the point than the technical aspects of why.

Next we have the vedic horoscopes for the year with a need to bear in mind the date ranges for each sign is quite different from western signs. Some good advice but with only half a page, per sun sign for the year ahead, it’s a bit thin on the ground in terms of information.

We then have a ‘Week as a Glance’ where there are overall predictions for each week of the year in a few sentences. This is actually quite interesting as there comments on political energy, media energy as well as the personal, and mention is made of the planets positions and influence which I personally likes a lot.

A short article on the eclipses in the year ahead then follows and then we finally move onto Chinese astrology, with a few sentences for each animal sign and a chart to help you decide which is you if you are not already aware. Again this is an article I would have liked to see more content for.

The final article on the upcoming year sign – the Year of the sheep was very interesting and worthwhile reading, just over a page long it detailed the sorts of things to expect in a wider general sense in society in the coming year.

So some interesting things in the Prediction Annual – my personal conclusion was one of disappointment though, as there were some good potential articles but they were very short, and the main body of the magazine was written on western astrology without much mention of where the predictions were coming from. Though this may appeal to many people, I wonder about the value of the magazine as a whole as for almost £8 it seems rather expensive, especially when so many glossy magazine will offer similar astrological predictions through the year as free pull outs, with the magazine itself being almost half this price.

6 of wands – illuminati

This month I thought we would stick with the new Illuminati deck. This month’s card is 6 wands.

Kim Huggins and Erik Dunne - Copyright LoScarabo

The image is very busy as most of this deck’s cards are, however it means all the image is in focus, rather than just the foreground, this enables us to consider meaning in many places of the image as equally important. So what do we have for December?

We see a warrior returning from battle victorious, and being acknowledged for all he has overcome. He has returned victorious. You can see the gold of his costume representing self-esteem and confidence that comes from being honed through challenges. The people greeting him adorned in bright colours, their own self esteem high, rich and lush, they are able to see and truly understand what this warrior has gone through to achieve his current position. With this knowledge they look up to him and honour him for his strength courage and bravery.

So in December we find ourselves reaping our harvest, we have survived the challenges of the year behind us and come out on top. not only are we feeling more confident and proud of ourselves but others can recognise what we have done too – we are seen for our efforts.

We have also come home – back in the safety of the castle we can rest rejuvenate and restore ourselves amongst friends and family are an arduous set of challenges. So enjoy this month in celebration of what you have achieved. Earlier in the year you may have dismissed the efforts you were making as not being enough – or finding things difficult where you felt they should have been easy. You may have found others wondering what the issue was. This month however things are very different, as you look back you see the hard work and effort was worth it and you are able to appreciate yourself fully – without shame. Others reflect this back to you as you hear peoples thoughts and comments on what you have done and realise others do see your value and appreciate you for the risks you have taken, your bravery and your courage.

The challenges may have been on an inner level – you may have been fighting old patterns of thought and behaviour, perhaps battling with depression or some form of psychological demon. Often unseen these battles we do alone, or with just a few to support us, this month though you find acknowledgement and support everywhere. Focus on acknowledging yourself, giving to yourself credit for the things you have had to face. Dealing with painful events requires a great deal of courage and the determination of the inner warrior, as you recognise yourself so your external world will understand you also and you will feel welcomed.

The challenges may have been on a physical level, an illness, difficult living conditions, work or money, these too you have addressed head-on or with conscious strategy, as you have taken on the fight so you have used your courage and resilience to keep battling on – this month sees solutions, victory over difficulties and the chance to rest, celebrate and enjoy comfort with others in a place of safety and support.

Whatever the challenges have been you have used them to further your spiritual growth, consciously or as a by-product, and now life rewards you for your effort. Enjoy your days spent with people – honour the team’s contribution to your efforts and recognise each person who congratulates you has their own areas of victory and valour, their stories of bravery and challenge. As you realise each person has their own battle field and turns up to do battle each day, so you also share your honour with those around you. You inspire some as they inspired you previously, you become a beacon for what is possible if you set your mind to it. And you build support within yourself for battles that will challenge you in the future.
